Description:

Provide for the custody, control, care & treatment of adjudicated offenders through enforcement of laws and implementation of programming designed to insure the safety of the public, staff, and inmates and to reintegrate offenders into society.

The Lake Charles Regional Office is in Region 2

We have several off-site office hours to better serve our citizens, as well as our offender population. These locations are:

Iowa Report night, held at the Iowa Police Department
Cameron Parish Report day, held at the Cameron Parish Court House
Westlake Report night, held at the Westlake Police Department
DeQuincy Report night, held at he DeQuincy Police Station
Lake Arthur Report night, held at the Lake Arthur Police Station
Vinton Report night, held at the Vinton Police Station
Welsh Report night, held at the Welsh Police Department

We initiated a report night for our Lake Charles District Office for our offender population whose working hours prevent them from reporting during the normal work day hours. All of our report days and nights are held the first & second weeks of each month. Our field agents maintain a presence at these locations continually.

Our district office has spear-headed, organized, and participated in the following projects:

OPEN DOOR PROGRAM:

This program was created to provide assistance to women in need, such as life skills, parenting skills, and coping skills. This program was 3 years in the planning stage. The committee met during this period in the Lake Charles District Office.

OUT-4-LIFE PROJECT:

The Lake Charles District works with the local Out-4-Life committee in an effort to establish local housing and employment opportunities for offenders returning to the community from DOC Custody.

THE PATRIOT DOG PROGRAM:

This Program has been developed to treat returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan who are suffering with Post-Traumatic Stress due to active combat participation. The program also reaches out to at-risk children and patients in local hospitals. The goal of the program is to train dogs (mostly those in shelters) to provide companionship to those who are feeling alienated from the world. The Patriot Dog Program has significant support in southwest Louisiana, and is producing positive results.
