Operation Stand Down

Operation Stand Down is an event to provide a one-stop shop for veterans experiencing homelessness, and at some events, their families as well.  At this event, supported by the Veterans Administration (VA), consumers can come receive various services, including medical, dental, and eye screenings, various tests and /or physicals, and connect to further health services.  Some areas perform pregnancy and HIV testing and even ultrasounds.

Social Service agencies are present to help consumers connect to potential resources and help for their needs.  Some agencies may perform screening intakes on site for housing, with the potential for immediate housing placement.   Consumers are offered haircuts, clothing vouchers, and are provided a hot meal – often breakfast and lunch.  For veterans, the VA provides supplies and services specifically for veterans suffering homelessness.

Operation Stand Down is a national effort, occurring around Veteran’s Day in November each year.  Some communities hold one day events; others extend it to two days.  For dates, locations, and more information, please contact the specific regional contact as listed under “Contact Us".
