The Shepherd Center is an ecumenical ministry devoted to serving the local community.
We assist working individuals and families who are experiencing an unforeseen financial crisis and emergency need to help get back on their feet.

The Shepherd Center was founded in 1983 by Rapides Parish churches, synagogues and other religious organizations to assist needy families. Throughout the years the community has demonstrated its generosity and love of neighbor through The Shepherd Center. Each year we help thousands of families with utility and rent assistance, food, clothing and transportation vouchers, as well as with school supplies, Christmas gifts and Christmas dinner.

The Shepherd Center provides the following services:

Homeless Prevention / Emergency Rent Assistance
Emergency Electrical and Utilities Assistance
Emergency Food
Advocacy
Clothing and Transportation for Medical reason Vouchers
DCFS Online Applications
School supplies
Christmas gifts and Christmas dinner

Hours:

Applications for Emergency Assistance: Monday - Friday 8:00am-12:00pm Persons requesting Emergency utility assistance must call for an appointment

Persons requesting Emergency utility assistance must phone in for an appointment.

Intake Process:

May apply in person, except for those needing utility assistance must phone in for appointment.

Eligibility:

Proof of income, picture ID/DL, Food stamp budget letter, Bill needing assistance with.

Bus fare requires purpose of travel to be for a medical issue.
