The Economic Stability Section of DCFS assists families with:
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) - aka Food Stamps - Provides monthly benefits that help low income households buy food needed for good health.

Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) - Provides assistance to parents to help pay for the child care they need to work or attend school or training.
Kinship Care Subsidy Program (KCSP) - Provides cash assistance for eligible children who reside with qualified relatives other than parents.

Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program (FITAP) - Provides temporary cash assistanceto families in need. STEP (Strategies to Empower People Program) assists FITAP recipients with educational, training and work related activities designed to lead to employment and self-sufficiency.

Hours:

M-F, 8A-4:30P

Intake Process:

Apply online, by mail, and at any DCFS parish office.
An interview is also required for FITAP, SNAP, and KCSP, but can be conducted over the telephone. Verification documentation may be requested. CCAP eligible applicants will receive a certificate for each child who needs cares. The child care provider must complete the certificate and applicant must return it by due date. FITAP applicants may be required to participate in the STEP program.

Eligibility:

Households must meet income tests (unless any member is receiving FITAP, KCSP, STEP benefits, or all members are receiving SSI). Client must live in LA. Household members can include either US citizens and/or certain aliens with verifiable USCIS documentation.
